(Cowley Student: Vol. 6 - 2016)

The sky spills feathers
In the darkness of the night
Angel falling down

(Cowley Student: Vol. 6 - 2016)

I wish things were easier to say
As they are to judge
Your letters are put into a frame
Then put down in your grave
For them to follow you forever
Your feelings are copied
Covered with ink
Put on a page for everyone to read
Skewed but not illegible

(Cowley Student: Vol. 6 - 2016)

I was putting
my ear to the wall
and listening to

every vibration from
your mouth that sounded
like mislaid promises.

Cowley Student (Vol. 5 - 2015)

All I do is dream about food
Breakfast can be had at any time of day
Canceling the idea that eggs are only meant for mornings
Dancing sugarplums fill my thoughts
Epitomizing my lust for sweets

Cowley Faculty (Vol. 5 - 2015)

Spring whispers at me
from beneath the snow
With quiet pleas
to rid the despair
Depression looms in the time
between now and then
When finally I meet
the sun again

I built this city
with my hands
I grinded and lifted
like flour, I sifted
I was buried in sand
my lips are chapped
my brain is crammed
someday, after I’m done,

Today is the first day of Spring, and I’m stuck
In a snowstorm in the middle of Pennsylvania.

100 billion years ago Ms. Johnson took her first breath of air
When earth was still a child of time and space
She was conceived in an open volcano to a cockroach and a pterodactyl
She had her father's resilience, and her mother’s soothing voice

So here’s to the poets
Those who harvest creativity
Plant the seeds, water, and grow it

Like a rose
Each petal a different color
Like rainbow imagery
Imagined by pot of gold searching

The night lurks in the setting sun,
The dark hour you’d better not shun.
It’s fingers stretch across the land
Into the waters and through the sand.

The battle between sun and moon,
Will make the sky burst with colors soon.

I realized I was a girl
When I walked into a game stop
Men behind the desk would gawk

A cut here, a cut here
        am I perfect yet?
A chop here, a chop here
          am I perfect yet?

Did you know that a whale’s penis is 8 feet long?
I bet they feel great about themselves,
But by God, I wish that it wouldn’t make me feel so small.
Is 8 feet the standard, universal size?
