"Paper Cuts"

Cowley Student (Vol. 7: 2017)

We bleed our words, our thoughts and rage, but the blood isn’t red, it’s ink on a page,

It’s all of my hate, disappointment, hopes and faith,

A release from reality to a world so carefree

Where judgement and contradictions are things of the past,

and love and happiness really last,

But that’s the hard truth, life is a bitch,

The depression will surpass and blotch out the joys,

People lay with your emotions like a child’s toys,

So we guard our hearts and lay the part,

Just trying to fit in but still torn apart,

We bleed our words, our thoughts and rage, but the blood isn’t red, it’s ink on a page,

Things we can’t discuss,

We don’t bleed from the slice of a blade,

So, what’s the pain?

It’s just paper cuts.
