Last week, I had the privilege of going to the Native Crossroads Film Festival: Bodies in Motion with a few other Cowley writers. It was very fun as well as informal. I learned about Native American culture as well as some culture of Mexico as well. The first film we watched was called "Rariihuuru- The Letter".

Questions! Questions! Questions! Are you trying to come up with a plausible story to write about? Sci-Fi? Romantic? Adventure? The selection of topics can be overwhelming. What appeals to you? What do you feel comfortable with? Is there an experience you’ve had that can guide you? How much effort is needed to put into it? Do you have the requisite time?

Sitting in silence without any entertainment in not easy in our society. Some people are turned off at the idea of meditation without really understanding it. Something as simple as focusing on taking deep breaths, walking and clearing your mind, or even coloring can be meditative. One benefit that I found interesting when reading an article from Psych Central was the creative benefits of meditation.

This week, a group of writers and myself got to explore the original town of Wichita better known as "Cow Town." We all loaded up on the bus and headed there. I didn't know what to expect because no one really told me what Cow Town was. I thought it was just a town that had loads of cows walking around it. When we got there, there were no cows in sight.

I cannot say for sure when I first tried cooking on my own. I grew up helping my mom in the kitchen. In a family of nine, peeling potatoes and watching the pot of soup was a part of the deal for us kids. I honestly do not know how people function without knowing how to cook for themselves. To me, it was as natural a part of growing up as learning how to drive or wash my own clothes.
