"Fear is Here"

A 2017 October Contest Winner: Cowley Student

Fear likes to lurk around every corner.

Sitting and waiting, ready to torture.

For fear takes the shape of anything,

When you think it’s gone fear is still lingering.

Latching onto you like a small parasite,

It feeds on your fear during the night.

“Don’t be afraid” is what everyone tells you.

If only they could feel the fear like you do.

The fear slithers up your spine bringing a chill.

It clasps around your throat, ready to kill.

Just when you think you’ve had your last breath,

Fear lets go and barley keeps you away from death.

Fear saves you when you think you’re at your end.

But only to come back again and greet you as an old friend.
