“Gutenberg”

(Cowley Student: Vol. 6 - 2016)

I wish things were easier to say
As they are to judge
Your letters are put into a frame
Then put down in your grave
For them to follow you forever
Your feelings are copied
Covered with ink
Put on a page for everyone to read
Skewed but not illegible
But don’t wet your voice
With the sounds of protest
Don’t defend your words
And your meaning

Because the warped letters will only bite
Into the paper
Your beliefs will be folded
And imprinted with all the pressure possible
Not with angel wings
But with a devil’s tail
Your concepts will be forever
Sadly
handled by those
Who may
Or may not
Be indifferent
